Our Staff

The Boss

My name is Henry and it was my idea to create Henry’s Hut, a purpose built indoor and outdoor learning environment full of fun, support and encouragement to children and their families.

Mrs Sandra Brown

I am married to John and we have two children Catherine and Laura. I started my career as a Theatre Nurse and then as a GP’s Practice Nurse. I took a career break to have my children but did not return to that profession. I have been involved in childcare since 1992 where I volunteered as a parent helper at Mother and Toddlers, Darras Hall First School and at Broadway Nursery. In 2002 I became the Leader of Broadway Nursery where I embarked on many childcare and education courses. In June 2012 I gained my First class BA Honours degree in Early Years Practice.

In 2013 we moved Broadway Nursery from the United Reformed Church into our own building here at Henry’s Hut.

Mrs Julie Cowey

I am married to Pete and we have three grown up children, twin sons Alex and James and our daughter Jen who works with me. I am a State Registered Nurse but left that profession to bring up my family. I started working in child care and education in 2000 and have recently been awarded a First Class BA (Hons) Degree in Early Years Practice. I love nature and the countryside and am passionate about outdoor play for children. I have really enjoyed helping to develop the fantastic outdoor space we have at Henry’s Hut.

Miss Hannah Spears

I am qualified at Level 3 in Childcare and Education and am able to care for children 0-16yrs. I live near Morpeth and have three younger brothers. I also have family who live in Australia and have visited them 3 times. In my spare time I love to shop and go out and spend time with friends and family.

Mr Keith Errington

I first met Sandra, Julie and the team 13 years ago when my daughter started at the old Broadway Nursery. My wife and I were so happy with how our daughter progressed that we had no hesitation in sending our son there when he was old enough. I joined the team in 2012 when it was decided to relocate the Nursery to the new setting, Henry’s Hut on Callerton lane. My role has changed since the Nursery building’s renovation was complete, from builder to office manager.

When I’m not at work, I help coach the junior section at Ponteland Rugby Club, play a role as a committee member at Ponteland Amateur Swimming club and enjoy being an active member of Ponteland Triathlon club.

Mrs Alison Melvin

I am a mum of three and live in the local area. I have been in childcare for 7 years and am qualified level 3 in Children and Young People’s Work Force, Early Learning and Childcare Pathway.

Most parents (and children) will know me best as “the one who drives the bus”.

Mrs Justine Eden

I am qualified at level 2 in Children’s care, Learning and Development and Level 3 in Children and Young People’s workforce. Early learning and childcare pathway. I’m married and a mum with three young children and live locally. All three of my children attended Mrs Browns Nursery at Broadway before they moved to Henry’s Hut which is where I first met Sandra and Julie.

Mrs Alison Charlton

I have been working with Mrs Brown and Mrs Cowey for about 14 years. I live locally, mother of two grown up boys and a grandmother to a lively 18 month old boy. At work i see myself as part of a team that helps our children to develop and learn in a safe and supportive environment helping the children to get  a good start for the life ahead of them.
